When to Schedule Your Child's Orthodontic Evaluation

On one level, this question is easy to answer: you should take your child to the orthodontist anytime you have a question about their smile or the alignment of their teeth. However, even if you don't have specific questions about your child's smile, you should plan to schedule your child's initial orthodontic evaluation around their 7th birthday. This evaluation appointment is critical to the healthy development of your child's smile. At this age, the back bite has fully grown in and established itself, which means it's the first age at which an orthodontist can fully evaluate all tooth relationships in your child's smile. Usually, we won't opt to begin treatment this early, but evaluating at this early age lets us plan and choose the best time to start treatment.
