At Oubre Orthodontics, we know how confusing getting braces can be, especially when it comes to financing for orthodontic treatment. Our office strives to provide affordable, high-quality care to all of our patients. One of the biggest factors when deciding to get braces is the cost of them. Paying for braces can be a shock to many. The average cost of braces is between $3,000 and $6,000. Fortunately, there are options to pay less out of pocket, reduce this price, or pay over time. Learn how you can save with braces, and how we at Oubre can help!

How Much Are Braces?

The Cost for braces mainly depends on the type of treatment you’ll receive and the length of time the braces will need to be worn. It also varies depending on which orthodontic office you go to and what plans they offer. Orthodontic treatment can be expensive, but there are many ways to find affordable braces.

How to Pay for Braces

There are different ways to pay for braces. These options include insurance, payment plans, flexible spending accounts, and more. Here are some things to consider when deciding what braces you should get and how you’re going to invest in your treatment.

  • Choose a low-cost option- Traditional braces, such as metal braces or ceramic, are generally the least expensive option compared to removable aligners or lingual braces. Traditional metal braces can range from $3,000 to $5,000. Prices vary depending on your treatment plan, orthodontic office, and even the area you live in.
  • Insurance- Not all dental plans cover orthodontics, so check the insurance policy. If you're looking for a new plan, focus on orthodontics coverage. Insurance plans that do cover braces typically pay around 50% of the cost, which is great!
  • Ask for a Payment Plan- A lot of orthodontic offices offer payment plans for patients without insurance. Depending on the office policy, you can choose between plans with little to no interest and have a payment plan for up to 2 years.
  • Flexible Spending Account/ Taxes- If your dental plan does not cover orthodontics, your employer may offer a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA). The money you put into the account is not taxed, so expenses for orthodontic coverage can go further. Depending on the rules, your FSA or HSA may reimburse you for co-pays or office visits. You also can deduct orthodontic costs every year when you file your taxes.
  • Financing- Financing through personal loans or credit cards is always another option. While they cost more in interest, you can spread repayments for as long as you want, depending on your bank.
  • Discounts- Some orthodontic offices offer discounts, such as if you’ve been referred by a friend/relative or if you refer someone else.
